In the early 1960s, the Yeh family----father, mother and six children ---- 65 in Washington, D.C., after an odyssey(长期漂泊) that had 66 them from China to Brazil. Their youngest son, John, had been 67 deaf. In his new land, he had to learn both English and 68 language. He carried a Chinese-English dictionary 69 .

Undaunted, John earned a master’s 72 in computer science at the University of Maryland.
