There is plenty of beauty in Shanghai. Even though (尽管) there are a lot of people (and cars and trucks and pollution), the city is great! For example, I love many of the modern high buildings. I also love the old temples, and the wonderful tree-lined streets.
But some people in shanghai just don’t stop to think about how beautiful their city is and how they can help to keep that way. Or maybe they just don’t care?
There are a lot of litterbugs in shanghai, people who throw their rubbish everywhere.
If you want to burn a place that is very beautiful into something that is ugly (丑陋的) ,just cover it with rubbish. A pleasant tree-lined street can look like a garbage dump (垃圾堆) at once.
I do have a small suggestion for China’s middle-school students. Next time you are about to throw something on the ground, stop and think about how beautiful your city is. Then find a rubbish bin and pretend (假设)you’re Yao Ming-dunk the rubbish in the basket and score 2 points for the environment.
