Now in China, much attention has been paid to emphasizing“standard English”in English teaching. In contrast, not much attention has been paid to the English expressions with Chinese features as if this kind of English were a substandard one. There is evidence that this point of view is incorrect. From practice, the result of learning English in this way is not ideal. Theoretically, from the relation between language and thought, thought is a psychological and spiritual activity and it cannot exist independently without the objective environment. In addition, in China, most foreign language learners study or acquire their target language in formal places like school or foreign language training centers, and they have firstly acquired their mother tongue Chinese and formed the way of Chinese thinking. Therefore, they cannot get rid of Chinese interference and influence no matter how hard they work. Any ignorance of this fact will lead to the inefficient foreign language teaching or learning. It is necessary to obtain some implications from the linguistic features of China English.
China English is an inevitable English phenomenon for Chinese people in the process of learning English. The objective existence of China English indicates that Chinese people speak or write English in the specific way with the features shown at linguistic levels: phonology, lexis, syntax and discourse. Therefore, the intensive study of China English can help improve the efficiency of learning English and can make a better combination of English thinking and that of Chinese in the process of learning English. It can also change the traditional attitude to consider China English as pollution to “standard”English. We should pay much attention to the way of thinking in Chinese and improve the current situation of English teaching and learning in China. On the basis of the traditional method of English teaching and learning, it is necessary for teachers and students to learn some knowledge about China English because it is valuable for their study. Similarly, China English will be helpful for Chinese people to learn other foreign languages.
5.2 The Influence of Native Habits
How can the Chinese characteristics maintain while it is free of mother tongue when the mother tongue itself is Chinese? It seems to be out of the question in the light of the theory transfer: language learners do not acquire or learn vacuum, they study on the basis of their knowledge, that is, mother tongue influences foreign language learning. The learners tend to transfer the structure or usage from Chinese to English as long as this paper is concerned.
