该剧讲述了平冢平八（香取慎吾饰）是搜查一课平冢小组仅有的一名成员。小气至极、事事吹毛求疵的平八总是摆出一副彬彬有礼的绅士做派，是警视厅的一大怪人。如此特立独行又惹人嫌的平八却总是出人意料地解决了多起案件。
一日平冢组来了位新人刑警西园寺公辅（山下智久饰），这个精英公子哥正义感十足、一根筋似的单纯，不过有个怪癖就是格外喜欢圆圆的东西。这样的两人组成了颇为有趣的刑警拍档，与各式各样的犯人展开了斗争。
