1、the first time“第一次”
整个结构相当于一个名词，其基本用法也等同于名词。
例句：（1）It 's the first time a French jumper to break the world record in this event.
（一名法国跳高运动员打破这个项目的世界纪录，这还是第一次。）
（2）后接定语从句：The first time I met her was on Tuesday.
（我第一次遇见她是在周二。）
【注意：first time不能单用，必须跟定冠词the或物主代词my等连用，用法即同the first time的（1）（2），只能用作名词。】
（3）相当于连词，可以替换为when：I thought she was the very girl that I should marry the first time I met her.
当我第一次遇见她，我就知道我非她不娶。
2、for the first time“首次；第一次”
整个结构是一个介词短语，只能做时间状语，不能替换成when，在句中放置的位置比较自由。
例句：（1）For the first time, we find portraits that really look like us.
（有史以来第一次，肖像画看起来真的就像你我一样鲜活。）
（2）World trade may well shrink this year for the first time since 1982.
（世界年贸易量也许本年度就要经历1982年来的首次下降。）
3、by the first time “直到第一次之前”
严格来说不存在这样一个固定短语，其层次可分解为介词by＋连词the first time.
例句：Because love isn't finish by the first time you see the one.
（因为爱情不是第一眼就能完成的。）
这句话的断句应为：love isn't finish ＋by＋the first time you see the one
