Yesterday I read an English newspaper for the first time. When I spread it out, I didn't know where to start. All the headlines confused me and the writing style of the articles was very different from that of what we usually read.However, after looking up the new words left and right in the dictionary, I finally made out the meaning more or less.
Reading newspapers was not as easy as I had expected, but it offered me a sense of achievement and aroused my interest in learning the language. The comic strip was the first part of this newspaper I read. Some of them are quite amusing, some philosophical, and still others quite political. Then I tried to read other parts of the newspaper, like the editorial and local news. Through this experience, I have acquired a better and newer channel of learning English.

Newspapers contain many information topics such as sports, current events, business and entertainment. 1 like to read the sports topics most, especially football.
You can see a live tournament on TV, but there is one unique topic you can only read from the sports page in newspaper, that is the comments of an exciting game. After you watched and shouted in front of the TV set and got the result of the game, you can sit in a comfortable chair, hold the newspaper and read what the coach said, what the famous specialist said and what the players felt when they won or lost in the competition.
Moreover, the sports column of newspaper often serve as a guidance to the sports lovers. It introduces some sports that are not familiar to us, it forecasts some important events that will happen in some countries in the future, etc.
What a pleasure to watch the live game at night, to sleep in the morning, and to read the comments of the newspaper in the afternoon!
