简单来说，for有以下2种常见用法：
1. 为了。。。 Parents always do everything for us.
2. 因为。。。（引导原因状语从句，但该原因一般不是最直接原因） It may have rained last night, for the ground is wet.昨晚可能下雨了，因为地面是湿的。
to 表示动作对象，或动作的接受者。行动方向。例如：He gave a book to me
We decide to go to school.
也有一些固定短语搭配：to one's surprise让某人吃惊的是追问
