The Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) prepares students for entry into a variety of fields in accountancy, including corporate accounting, accounting information systems, and governmental accounting, as well as entry into graduate programs such as law. Students who are in the BSA program and who wish to take the CPA examination in Illinois should apply to the department’s integrated Bachelor/Master in Accountancy program.

The Accounting Department offers courses in financial, managerial and cost accounting, tax planning, auditing, international accounting, accounting for decision-making and control, and accounting for mergers and acquisitions. Although strong quantitative skills and attention to detail are important qualities for an accounting concentration, students need to acquire other skills as well. Many students find the accounting concentration to be useful preparation for careers in consulting, investment banking, general management, public accounting, and securities analysis.
