In China, there are a total of 56 ethnic groups and 85 different languages. This shows the rich cultural heritage of our country. However, it also reflects the huge difficulty in communication among differnt ethnic groups and with other countries. Just imagine, anybody that needs to work with other ethnic groups must learn the language of that ethnic group. This will introduce inefficiency and weaken the level of coordination. Similarly, other countries are required to learn many different languages of our ethnic groups in order to establish international relationship with China. As proven in many other countries that are multiracial, such as USA, the best way to deal with the communication barrier is to establish a common language for all different ethnic groups. Our government has long realised the importance of this challenge and has been working hard to introduce mandarin as the common official language for all in china. The campaign has been very successful. However, I believe the use of mandarin can be further promoted by taking the followng steps:
1. Government continues to lead by example to promote the use of mandarin.
2. Organize campaigns to all ethnic groups to explain the importance of learning and using mandarin.
3. Gradually increase the weightage of mandarin contents in broadcasting and tv programs.
As student, we should all participate actively in the mandarin campaign and help others voluntarily.

Should we need to promote the mandarin? Answers to this question very greatly. Some people are not in favor of the idea of promoting the mandarin. They always say that it will cost much money to promote. Since our country is not rich enough, we should spend the money to do important things. And they also say that it would ruin the diversity of the dialect.
But I think it is important to promote the mandarin. With the development of economy, people have more chance go around. If we speak mandarin, we can communicate sommthly. In addition, I we speak same language; it will enforce our sense of affinity.
To promote the mandarin, the government must take even more concrete measures. They should let people fully realize the importance of promoting the mandarin through education. They should train more teachers speaking mandarin. They should encourage people to speak mandarin, especially students.
