上海是中国最大的城市,工业发达,市街繁华。"七·七事变"后,日本侵略军出于扩大侵华战争的需要,又在上海发动了"八·一三事变"。日本军部先后调集了20万大军进攻上海,同时出动100余架飞机反复对上海进行毁灭性轰炸。
8月28日下午2时,日机疯狂轰炸上海南火车站。上海原有南北两个车站,"八·一三"以后,北站处于战区,交通完全断绝,南站就成了陆路交通的唯一出口。当时上海及其附近的难民蜂拥而至,争相出逃、南站拥挤不堪。第一批四架日机首先向南站投弹炸死难民500多人。不一会,又有八架日机飞抵南站上空投弹,炸死200多人。车站天桥、月台、铁轨被炸得稀烂,地上满是焦黑残缺的尸体。月台上横七竖八躺满尸体,上面还压着铅皮和木板。广场上很多被炸死的妇女紧抱着无头缺肢的孩子。日机投掷的燃烧弹使车站及站外的外揭旗和郑家桥燃起大火,一时间烟雾弥蔓,哭声四起,满目疮痍,惨不忍睹。上海南站远离交火地区,根本没有军事设施,中军对南站的轰炸,完全是有计划的野蛮屠杀。

" After the July 7th Incident, the Japanese aggressor army launched the August 13th Incident in Shanghai for the need of expanding the war of aggression against China. Japan's military headquarters has mobilized 200 thousand troops to attack Shanghai, while more than 100 planes have repeatedly carried out destructive bombing of Shanghai. At 2 p.m. on August 28, the Japanese aircraft bombed the Shanghai South railway station crazily. Shanghai used to have two stations, the North and the South. After the August 13th incident, the North station was in a war zone with no traffic at all, and the South station became the only exit for overland traffic.
