《往日时光》这首带有吉普赛和俄罗斯风格的歌曲原本是俄罗斯民歌，鲍里斯·福明作曲，诗人康斯坦丁·波德列夫斯基作词，是1925年推出的俄语歌曲《路漫漫》（译音），现在被俄罗斯境内吉普塞人视为他们的民歌。
英文版的《路漫漫》是1968年由基尼·拉斯金填上了英文歌词名，并建议甲壳虫乐队保罗·麦卡特尼等成员和年轻漂亮女歌手马丽·霍普金，在著名的“苹果”工作室为这首抒情歌曲录音，名为《Those were thedays》。在1968年推出后，当年就登上了欧美流行榜第二、第一的位置，停留在榜上长达10周之久。此后该歌曲在世界各地广为传播，马丽·霍普金也成为一流歌星。
