People in western countries think differently when they are compared with people in China.
To start with, the most usualcase is that western people are more open minded than Chinese.
For example, fornative Chinese people, the last thing they will do is to talk about"love" in public
so that we have never heard someone speaks his or her love out loudly. While for westerners,
when they have feelings for someone, they speak out their love directly and even hug and kiss their lover in theopen place, which will never happen in China.
Besides, the different thinking patterns lead to differentiated ways in which easterners and westerners handle problems. When they are confronted with troubles, Chinese people prefer searching for relationship to solve problems, like depending on the power of parentsor relatives. This is why the Chinese words "Guanxi" has been widelyspread. However, foreigners always choose to settle the problems by themselves. They are independent enough to trust themselves when facing troubles.
Last but of the same importance, westerners think more directly than easterners. Forinstance, when speaking highly of others, eastern people always refuse toaccept others' praise as a result of our traditional value--to be humble. Oncontrary, western people would be glad to take it in the same situation.Another case is that when making mistakes, westerners often point out others' faults directly, while Chinese people never blame others face to face but in a soft way.
Successful cross-cultural communication should be based on the agreement of different thinking modes.
