Well, the advantages of knowing English are that although china our homeland is becoming more and more prosperous and strong so much so that people are saying that after probably 50 years it will be us ruling the world, English, is still useful now as the world now still requires people to know English especially when we need to communicate with the western side of the world to improve ourselves and earn their money, English is the way, the key to open the door to the many fortunes which you can and will find in countries with their citizens using English as their official language. By mastering English, you will find yourself at ease when talking to the westerners who might still bear the thought of us not as good as them, impressing them and killing off their pride at the same time. You will find yourself at home when travelling to other English countries like america and england, you will be able to understand their sayings, completely don't have to worry about losing your way.
You will be able to enjoy movies with the original sounds and only which can let you fully appreciate the excellent work of Hollywoods.

But speaking of how as to learn English, well,English can be divided into three parts: speaking, listening and writing. As long as you can tackle all these 3 obstacles, you will and can be considered as you have learnt English.

Usually, our people have no much problem with writing, that's something to be proud of. However, if you are not confident of your writing skills, that means you will need to continue from the basic and improve on your grammar and vocabulary, you can increase your vocabulary by memorizing about 50 words per day and when you know about 20000 to 30000 words, you will have no problem in normal reading and conversation. For grammar, you will need to read as many books as possible so that after a while you will be used to the way they write it and it just come to your mind if you try to write something.

But for oral skills, we can practice by listening by listening to tapes again and again, and try to record your own voice when you read with the original tape, then you can play the one with your voice on it to try to compare with the original and find out the difference, so as to improve it.

Listening skills can be said to be the easiest one as you can just watch movies with English conversations and try to understand, after a while or two, you will find yourself used to it and are able to understand.
