（1）in spite of
后面跟的是名词或者动名词，不跟从句。
一般是主观上故意去忽视,有时往往是好的条件,因素,或他人的建议,很可能导致不好的结果
例句：In spite of her never having acted before,her first performance for the amateur dramatic group was a success.
尽管她以前从没有表演过,她的第一次演出。
（2）regardless of
后常接名词或者接从句。
一般用于客观上无法避免的事实，往往是不利的条件，因素,需要主语去正确面对和处理，并不是避而远之。
例句：We've fixed the date for the outing and we'll go regardless of wind or rain.
我们郊游的日期已定，风雨无阻。
