在中心语之前，形容词和名词作定语在用法上没有多少区别。比如：tall building（形容词做定语，高大建筑），train station（名词做定语，火车站），有区别的地方是，形容词都可以作定语，但名词并不是都可以作定语的。比如你不能说 people republic，也不能用 mother mother 来表示祖母。但很多名词表示所属关系时可以加撇s做定语，比如：my mother's mother。
