Dead Poets Society is a cinematic masterpiece. I view it as a tribute to teaching as a profession. Teaching not only the subject but also the person, and having a lifelong impact on students' lives is what the movie tells us about.
In the film, Mr. Keating's unorthodox approach meets with obstacles from his ultra traditional fellow teachers, from Neil's father and the other parents who are conservative and over status conscious. It shows us the conflict between traditional education system represented by the academics and modern education represented by the English teachers.
It's an intelligent film. Engaging plot, memorable characters, meaningful theme, wonderfully done scenes and atmosphere...Dead Poets Society has it all.
