Hi, my name is Christina Baum. I'm a fourteen-year-old German student. I'm writing totell you about an experiment we are doing at school with our Science teacher. At thebeginning of this school year, Frau Keller showed us films and we read articles aboutproblems in the environment. One day she said, 'I want to know what you think. Please don'ttell me what we should do or must do. Tell me what each of you will do to protect theenvironment. '
She asked us to choose a topic, make a weekly plan and tell the class about it. Then wehad to do things to be 'green' and write a report about our achievemenL Some students said thatthey thought it was impossible for a single person to contribute to the protection of theenvironment. Someone else said that scientists should work harder to find new ways toproduce energy. Frau Keller said that it is everyone's job to care for the health of the planet. After the firstweek everybody in class was excited about the project and wanted to continue to improvetheir results. Someone suggested telling the other classes in the school. Now all 768 studentsat Hermann Stein School are working on the project. :At the end of the year, our class willwrite a report about what we have achieved. Next week I'll think about how not to waste water or make it dirty. I'm planning to try touse less water every day, and also not to use so many of the things that make it dirty. Everytime I turn on the tap I must think about how much water and soap I use.
To use less water, this is what I'll do:
—— take a shower instead of baths;
—— turn off the tap while brushing my teeth;
—— use less washing-up liquid when washing dishes. If you want to know more or join us, please write an e-mail to the following address:k.keller @ hermannstein school.
How do the students in class feel about the project at the beginning?
A. Bored B.Worried C.Scared D.Excited
