approach means method way的区别

上网上看了一些说法，但是都区分不明确，有的意思都重合了，看的我晕晕乎乎的。请各位英语大神们用简单通俗的语言解释区分一下，最好能举出例子，再给些固定搭配~
这里有一道题：At the meeting they discussed three___for the study of mathmatics.
A. approaches B.means. C.methods D.ways
我就觉得非常奇怪，答案选A,可是ways的用途那么广怎么就不能选了呢？还有method不也可以指一些学习方法的吗？
