How important are first impressions? Is it more important for someone to be impressed with you at the beginning or is it more important to give realistic impressions? Do you have any tips for making a good first impression?

Personally, I think realistic impressions are most important. I think this because lately I've met a lot of foreigners who tell me their Chinese is very good. I believe them and assume it's better than my Chinese. However, a few hours later I see that they don't understand things I understand and don't really know so much. I think they like the prestige of saying 揑 speak good Chinese? but it sets up really high expectations. When I see they're not as good as they say they are, I loose respect for them.

翻译：第一印象如何重要？是在一开始就给一个人深刻的印象重要还是给他展现真实的一面更为重要呢？关于给人好的第一印象你有没有什么好的建议？
我个人以为，真实的印象更为重要。我之所以这样认为是因为我遇见了许多外国朋友，他们都告诉我说他们的汉语很好，我很相信他们，甚至觉得他们的汉语会比我好。但是，几个小时后我发现他们根本不理解我所能理解的东西，而且他们实际上知道的并不多。我想他们大概是认为会汉语很光荣吧，但是却造成了别人对他们期望值太高。所以当我发现他们其实没他们所形容的那样好时，我对他们很失望。

First impression is of great significance to us nowadays especially when we are applicants of a job interview. If all the candidates show equal intelligence and capability on conducting, It is quite essencial to establish a fine first impression to the new boss which indicate that u may be the prospective employee. To achieve a good first impression, we should give ourself a new look, for example, we'd better dress properly, talk decently, neither too eloquent nor too mild, thus we will leave a better impression .First impression may not be as misleading as many believe it is. Psychologists have said that one’s first reaction to something might be the revelation of what he or she truly believes. One’s reaction, thus, gives us a direct insight into his or her hearts, letting us know what he or she is like in the original state. Even the best of actors could not completely hide his feelings when confronting something totally unexpected. Most Harry Potter fans would remember the unforgettable moment in the book when the best disguiser of the series, Severus Snape, let out his true feeling of affection toward to boy whom he had tried so hard to hate.

It is easy to force back what our heart tells us and believe that first impressions are always conceiving. One could always restrict his or her feelings yet this is not what human should do. Our intuitions are usually right. So why not let our instincts guide us once in a while? After all, what something seems could be what it really is.

在我个人看来，我认为实际印象更为重要。这是因为我最近遇到了一些自称中文很好的外国人。我相信了他们并且认为他们的中文比我的好。然后，几个小时后，我发现很多我理解的知识他们并不理解也没有真的知道很多。我认为他们喜欢捏造说自己中文很好来提高自身的威望，建立了很高的期望。但是当我发现他们没有想自己说得那样好的时候，我对他们的期望降低了。
