一、set up ,set about , set down ,set out用法：
1、set up: 建立，创立；竖立，升起；一般句式：set up sth.
①A new government was set up after the war. 新政府于战后成立。
②We set up a monument to the memory of the revolutionary martyrs.
我们建立了一座革命烈士纪念碑。
2、set down: 记下，制定（规划、原则等） ，一般句式：set down sth.
①I have set down all the things that happened. 我已将发生的所有事记了下来。
②Is it necessary to set down these additional rules? 有必要制定这些补充规定吗？
3、set out: 出发，开始。（后加不定式，即set out to do sth）
He set out to paint the whole house but finished only the front part.
他开始着手粉刷整幢房子,可是只完成了前面的部分。
4、set about: 开始,着手。与set out意思相近（但后加 ing形式，即set about doing sth.）
He set about learning Chinese at age ten. 他在十岁时开始学中文。
二、set about ,set out区别：
1、二者具体含义不同。
set out意思是“动身去……”；出发去……”，set about 表示“开始, 着手干某事”。
一般地，set out是动身去某地的意思，而set about是指着手做某事。
例如：
When setting out on a long walk, always wear suitable boots.
每次出发远行，都要穿合适的鞋子。
His wife set about upbraiding him for neglecting the children.
他妻子开始指责他不照顾孩子。
2、二者句式不同。
set out 常用短语是：set out to do，例如：
He has achieved what he set out to do three years ago .
他已经实现了他3年前的奋斗目标。
set about 常用的短语是：set about doing sth 或者是set about sth 。例如：
we should set about our work！ 我们应该开始我们的工作了！
