英语翻译问题

so few authors have brains enough or literary gift enough to keep their own end up in journalism 请问高手这个怎么译啊， 后面的keep their own end up 是什么情况 是keep .....up 还是end up in ？

不能直接跟宾语的动词叫不及物动词，例如，look
May I have a look at your picture?我能看一下你的照片吗？
不及物动词要跟宾语需要加介词
